What about all the other birds?

The North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI)

Ecologically, the viability of most populations of birds in our region is dependent on the quality of habitats north and south of us. The North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI) is a key international initiative that promotes and supports the monitoring, research and conservation of our region’s birdlife within international ecosystems. NABCI is a trilateral initiative involving Canada, the United States and Mexico to develop and implement strategies for the long-term health of all bird species. The NABCI concept was conceived in 1998 with the vision of:

Populations and habitats of North America’s birds protected, restored and enhanced through coordinated efforts at international, regional and local levels, guided by sound science and effective management.

The goals of NABCI are to conserve birds using regionally based, biologically driven, landscape-oriented partnerships across the entire North American continent. The benefit of NABCI is increased efficiency and coordination of bird conservation efforts both within countries and across North America through four major sub-initiatives:

NABCI and its four sub-initiatives are currently being implemented in BC and Yukon in BCR 5 through the Pacific Coast Joint Venture (PCJV), and in BCRs 9 and 10 through the Canadian Intermountain Joint Venture (CIJV).
